Comity
The legal principle by which courts of one state recognize and enforce the judgments of courts in another state.
Example
The Florida court gave comity to the New York divorce decree and recognized it as valid.
Canadian Equivalent
In Canada, this is referred to as Comity (same principle; Canadian courts recognize foreign divorce orders under Divorce Act s.22).
